In the context of Selena Roberts' scathing expose of Auburn football, it is minor detail among a laundry list of alleged violations and corruption at the school and within the police department.

Take it for what it's worth, but Gators coach Will Muschamp is mentioned in in the article having paid former Tigers safey Mike McNeil $400.

McNeil now faces 21 years in prison for charges of armed robbery stemming from a March 2011 incident, which certainly does not help his credibilty.

McNeil claims that following a tough practice in 2007 Muschamp, the team's defensive coordinator in 2006-07, called him into his office.

“I had no clue what it was about because I’d never directly asked him for anything,” McNeil told Roberts in a story appearing on the Web site Roopstigo. “He slid about $400 over to me. He went into a drawer and gave me money and said, ‘Is this enough? Is this good?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m good.’”

Muschamp is never mentioned again in the lengthy story.

A team spokesman reiterated Wednesday evening that Muschamp denies any wrongdoing.

Roberts used to work at the Orlando Sentinel, New York Times and Sports Illustrated, where she exposed the steroid use of Alex Rodriguez, among others.
