In freshman phenom Jameis Winston, Florida State fans hope they may have their own version of former UF cultural icon Tim Tebow.
At least that's what reputed FSU insider Gene Williams -- the editor of Warchant.com -- said in the wake of Winston completing 25-of-27 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns in his debut against Pitt Monday night.
"Famous Jameis has swept Tallahassee and swept Seminole Nation," Williams said on our Open Mike radio show Thursday. "It's reminiscent -- and I hate to bring up the T-word down in Gainesville -- but you kind of see the same kind of hype building up for Jameis Winston.
"A lot of (FSU) fans came up to me after the game and because of the rivalry (with UF) and because all those years they turned on sports radio or looked at a message board and had to hear about Tim Tebow ... Now they're hoping the shoe is on the other foot and the Gators will have to endure Jameis Winston-mania for the next few years."
Williams is absolutely right.
If you're a Gator fan right now, you have to at least be a bit worried and a bit envious considering UF hasn't had an offensive player to get excited about since the Tebow-Percy Harvin years.
