Stan Van Gundy has a new gig.
The former Orlando Magic coach will serve as the color commentator for NBC Sports Network’s coverage of the Navy-Marine Corps Classic college basketball game Nov. 9 between the Florida Gators and the Georgetown Hoyas.
The game will be played on the deck of the USS Bataan, an amphibious assault ship, at Mayport Naval Air Station in Jacksonville.
“I’m excited about it,” Van Gundy told the Orlando Sentinel. “I think it’ll be a lot of fun being up there and with all the servicemen around. I just think it’s going to be a blast. Plus, you’ve got two good teams and two good coaches. I mean, I’ve never done it before, so I don’t know how good I’ll be, but there will be two good teams, and the experience will be great.”
NBC Sports Network officials also announced that Van Gundy will be a regular contributor to NBC Sports Radio, calling in for guest segments on different programs. In 2013, he’ll also be a guest host every Friday for one of NBC Sports Radio’s nationally distributed shows.
For now, though, Van Gundy said he’s concentrating on the Gators-Hoyas matchup.
“I really think it’ll be an awesome experience being up there and around the Navy personnel," he said.
"It’ll just be a whole different venue and a whole different atmosphere for a game than I’ve ever been involved with, and I can’t wait to see it.”
