The injury to small forward Hedo Turkoglu affects the Magic’s lineup considerably, probably making them go to small ball.

Turk broke his left hand in Friday night’s opener against the Denver Nuggets taking a swipe at a ball, apparently.

More will be known Saturday after Turk is evaluated. But if he’s out a month or so, Jacque Vaughn will lose size with the 6-10 Turkoglu out and be faced with his first tough decision as a coach.

Vaughn can move starting shooting guard Arron Afflalo, 6-5, to Turk’s spot and start Afflalo’s 6-5 back-up, J.J. Redick, at the 2.

That sounds most likely to me.

He has two rookies at his disposal. DeQuan Jones is out with a minor hip strain, and Maurice Harkless missed all the preseason games recovering from hernia surgery in August. At 19, Harkless only played one season in college before leaving for the NBA.

Harkless was activated Friday night but was the only Magic player in uniform who did not play.

Veteran Al Harrington is still recovering from knee surgery and not expected to be back for a few weeks.

Vaughn could start E’Twaun Moore at shooting guard alongside point guard Jameer Nelson and start Afflalo at the 3, keeping Redick as a weapon off the bench.
