Houston Coach Gary Kubiak has been transported by ambulance to a  hospital after collapsing on the field as he made his way toward the locker room at halftime of Sunday night’s game between the Texans and Indianapolis Colts.

Kubiak, 52, dropped to his knees and fell over. He was promptly surrounded by medical personnel and eventually placed on a backboard and taken to a waiting ambulance.

NBC sideline reporter Michele Tafoya, who was on the field at the time, said Kubiak had his eyes closed and appeared to be in pain, but talked to medical staff while he was being placed on a backboard and wheeled off the field.

During the third quarter, the Texans told Tafoya that Kubiak had not suffered a heart attack.

Tafoya was told by Texans media relations that Kubiak was taken to an undisclosed hospital for “precautionary” reasons, and that his family is with him.

Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips took over head coaching responsibilities for the Texans, who built a 21-3 lead in the first half.
