Progress made in Jonathan Ogden's contract talks

The Ravens are trying to reach closure on left tackle Jonathan Ogden's contract extension, as both sides will continue to talk over this weekend.

Marvin Demoff, Ogden's agent, and Pat Moriarty, the team's chief negotiator, have exchanged several proposals, and the team reported yesterday that progress has been made. But the Ravens wouldn't commit to having a deal reached in the next few days.

One Internet report speculated that the extension could be worth close to $28 million over four years and include a signing bonus in the $12 million range. That deal would not only make the three-time Pro Bowl performer the highest-paid offensive lineman in history, but also one of the highest-paid players in the sport.

Ogden, 26, who could void out the final two years of his present contract and become an unrestricted free agent in the spring, has repeatedly said he wants talks ended by the start of the season, which is two weeks away.
