SETTING THE SCENE: Saturday's outdoor practice started at 2:30 p.m. and finished a little before 5. Players wore full pads for the first time this training camp. Weather was overcast, with temperatures in the low 80s. Thunder rolled as the team left the field.
WHERE IS VONTA LEACH?: Things did not go well for rookie fullback Kyle Juszczyk in the Ravens' first goal-line drill of the summer. As the lead blocker for Bernard Pierce with the first-team offense, he got knocked backward on one play by safety James Ihedigbo. On another, he stalemated with rookie safety Matt Elam, whom he outweighs by 35 pounds. Later, as second- and third-teamers got opportunities, Juszczyk got pushed around by linebackers Arthur Brown and Bryan Hall on two plays. When the drill ended, linebacker Terrell Suggs yelled out, "Where is Vonta Leach when you need him?" Leach, of course, was cut by the Ravens last month, but the All-Pro fullback could return.
MIXED BAG FOR DOSS: No one has pulled away from the deep pack in the competition at wide receiver. The youngster who has stood out most is Tandon Doss, who has been targeted more often than anyone, though the passes aren't always completed. He appears quicker than he was last season, and his routes are crisper. Doss, who has spent a lot of time in the slot, had a couple of drops Friday and nearly made a nice diving catch Saturday. Still, it's significant that quarterback Joe Flacco keeps looking his way.

UNDER SIEGE: Flacco hasn't hid his frustration the past couple of days as the pocket has constantly collapsed around him. He cursed loudly after Suggs got a free run at him on one play. Later, linebacker Josh Bynes blitzed up the gut to quickly record a sack. The offensive line struggled in the first week of camp, messing up the timing of the passing game.
YOU DON'T KNOW JACK: One little-known offensive lineman who impressed in team rushing drills was Jack Cornell, who spent last season on the practice squad. Running with other backups, he consistently moved his man wherever he wanted to take him and was also nimble enough to get to the second level.
OVER THE TOP: The Ravens often have attacked the intermediate portion of the field so far in camp, but they took some successful shots downfield Saturday. Wide receiver Torrey Smith (Maryland) got behind cornerback Chykie Brown to catch a nice throw from Flacco. And backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor heaved a high-arcing deep ball to lanky wide receiver Tommy Streeter, who leaped over diminutive cornerback Asa Jackson for a touchdown.
HE'S GOT LEGS AND KNOWS HOW TO USE THEM: Kicker Justin Tucker made all 12 of his field-goal attempts, including tries from 55, 60 and 65 yards, with a slight wind blowing from left to right. As Tucker practiced, linebacker Elvis Dumervil, who was a member of the Denver Broncos when Tucker ended their season with a long game-winner last season, turned his back and paced the other way.
LAST PLAY! LAST PLAY! The Ravens wrapped up practice by simulating a last-second scenario in which the offense had fourth-and-
goal at the defense's 9-yard line. The defense shut out the offense all three times. Ihedigbo batted down a pass by Flacco when the first-teamers were on the field. Arthur Brown knocked a would-be touchdown out of the hands of tight end Billy Bajema when the second-teamers were out there. And third-string quarterback Caleb Hanie's last-gasp pass sailed over its intended target.
INJURY REPORT: Tight end Dennis Pitta was carted off the field with a dislocated hip after a collision with Ihedigbo in the back of the end zone. Pitta has been ruled out for the season opener. Guard Kelechi Osemele (right hamstring), rookie center Ryan Jensen (lower right leg) and wide receivers LaQuan Williams (arm; Maryland) and Marlon Brown (undisclosed) did not practice. Guard Marshal Yanda (shoulder) and linebacker Jameel McClain (bruised spine) still have yet to practice during training camp.
OVERHEARD: "Don't get in there and [expletive] your hand up, Joe!" — Suggs to Flacco during the first big brouhaha of the camp. Center Gino Gradkowski and nose tackle Terrence Cody were at the center of two scuffles. The second one caused players from both sides of the ball to spill onto the field.
