John Unitas standing in Memorial Stadium shortly before its demolition
"We'd never had anything like that before in the league," said Tex Schramm, who worked for the Los Angeles Rams and CBS television in the '50s, of John Unitas (standing in Memorial Stadium shortly before its demolition). "His passing was remarkable. ... There was just so much drama with Unitas."

Looking at these brought tears to my eyes. He gave me thrills as a kid growing up in the fifties/sixties. He was the best there ever was and in my humble estimation, still is. His leadership and playing with injuries that would keep other qb's out really inspired me. He, Artie Donovan, Lenny Moore and all the Colts weretreu Baltimoreans!!
