Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs told police officers that he was tired and he fell asleep, causing him to run his white BMW over a curb and into a wall early Friday morning in Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.

In an arrest video obtained by The Baltimore Sun from the Scottsdale Police Department, Suggs was cooperative with responding officers and explained in detail how the one-car accident occurred.

He said he went out to visit a female friend at a local hotel and he fell asleep, causing him to be out much later than he planned.

“Involving you guys is pretty bad news,” Suggs told one of the officers when asked why he didn’t notify police. “Two, I do have a suspended license, but I’m around the corner. I fell asleep. I haven’t been drinking. You all can do all the little tests. I didn’t involve you all because if you … did your research, I am an athlete. We do kind of got a bad rep right now. Driving without a license still ain’t good. They’ll see it as a DUI or whatever.”

Suggs was asked several times if he had been drinking or taken any drugs. At one point, he said, “No sir, I don’t do drugs.”

He also told once officer, “I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking I’ve been drunk and driving or whatever.”

Suggs also joked with one officer who reminded him that he gave him a speeding ticket a couple of years ago in the area. He also appeared to chuckle when he was told by an officer that one of the reasons that he was getting arrested was for “criminal damage for damaging the wall.”

Suggs asked, “I am getting arrested for damaging the wall?”

Suggs also asked the officer if he could call and notify his mother after he was placed in handcuffs.
