"He's in good shape and he's in good cardiovascular fitness and you can tell he's worked hard," said Ravens coach John Harbaugh Thursday, after left offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie missed the opening day of training camp.
Harbaugh fooled absolutely no one.
On Day 2, McKinnie appeared at practice Friday and he wasn't close to game day shape. After watching McKinnie practice, Harbaugh's nose had to be growing.
Good cardiovascular fitness?
McKinnie could barely make it through three straight plays without trainers huddling around him soaking him down with water. A good way to determine if a player is in shape is the amount of sweat on his legs and McKinnie could have created a pond.
If the Ravens had to play a game today McKinnie would be placed on PUP, the physically unable to perform list. At times, it was painful to watch.
With players as big as McKinnie, it's hard to say how much he was overweight but he had very little stamina. The quickness and reflexes were there, but the big man has a long way to go. On Thursday, Harbaugh said McKinnie had to lose weight before he would be allowed to practice. By some near miracle, he accomplished that overnight.
It had to be a brutal evening.
