Ravens offensive tackle Jah Reid was scratched for tonight's preseason game against the Detroit Lions, a negative sign after he returned to practice Monday from a strained right calf.
Reid first injured his calf during a June minicamp when he was carted off the field.
The Ravens also deactivated tight ends Ed Dickson (sprained right shoulder) and Dennis Pitta (broken right hand), defensive end Ryan McBean (broken left ankle), wide receiver Devin Goda (undisclosed), linebackers Terrell Suggs (Achilles tendon), Josh Bynes (back) and Darryl Blackstock (groin, high ankle sprain) and wide receiver David Reed (ACL surgery).
Starting wide receiver Torrey Smith (sprained right ankle) is in street clothes after missing time in practice this week. He wasn't listed on the initial group of inactives.
Cornerback Jimmy Smith (back) is active after leaving practice early Wednesday.
Starting cornerback Lardarius Webb had forecasted an increased role for Jimmy Smith this week after he didn't play against the Atlanta Falcons a week ago in the preseason opener.
"We'll have Jimmy back out on the end," Webb said Wednesday. "It will be a little different than it was last week. I know we had me and Cary [Williams] out there, but it will be a little different rotation this week."
The Ravens drafted Smith in the first round last year and he intercepted two passes as a rookie during the regular season with another interception in the playoffs against the New England Patriots.
"He's coming along well," Webb said. "He's been a little short, but he is working his butt off, and that's something that we like to see from a young guy. He's coming out there as much as he can, and he's giving it all he's got and that's all we can ask from him."
Meanwhile, rookie outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw (sprained right shoulder) is set to make his preseason debut after sitting out against Atlanta a week ago.
Upshaw is the Ravens' top draft pick, a second-round selection from Alabama who reported to camp at roughly 280 pounds and is trying to get down to a target weight of 270 pounds.
