News item: Popular and outspoken Orioles outfielder/DH Luke Scott has signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.

<b>Schmuck's take:</b> Hard to argue with the Orioles' decision to release him and avoid salary arbitration, since Luke is coming off major shoulder surgery and made $6.4 million last year, but the Orioles really need to be adding power instead of subtracting it.

<b>Bonus take:</b> They also need to be adding some quotable players until I bone up on my Pacific Rim language skills.

That's right. Because we all know that the most important thing the Os have to do is keep the sportswriters happy or we'll have to read their junior-high-schoolish sniping all season
