During a conference call Thursday, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events Paul “Triple H” Levesque and WWE2K Creative Director Cory Ledesma announced that WWE2K14’s single player campaign will be “30 years of Wrestlemania”.
The mode’s description, per 2K’s official press release, is copied below:
WWE 2K14’s 30 Years of WrestleMania Mode will organize matches into a progressive single-player campaign, with the format curated by five distinct eras in WWE history. Unique presentation elements transport players through the different eras, including authentically recreated arenas, WWE Superstar entrances and ring attires, as well as era-specific graphics, screen filters and other presentation elements. In addition, extensive WWE-produced video packages and in-game, cinematic cut scenes set the stage and provide detailed background information on key matches. Historical objectives encourage players to authentically replicate popular match moments, while completing objectives will unlock a host of rewards, including additional playable WWE Superstars, alternate attire options, new arenas and WWE archive photography.
During the call, three matches were officially announced to be a part of the game:
Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant at WrestleMania 3
Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 18
The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 28
With recent announcements of the Ultimate Warrior and JBL being in the game, you can assume that Hogan vs. Warrior at WrestleMania 6 and JBL vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 21 may also be included in the game.
During the conference call, Triple H joked that his infamous 30-second match with Warrior from WrestleMania 12 “probably won’t be part of the game,” but this certainly does make you wonder what matches from WrestleMania’s past will be included. A “30 years of WrestleMania” roster reveal will take place Aug. 17 at WWE SummerSlam Axxess, hosted by Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and Damien Sandow. During the call, Ledesma confirmed that WWE 2K14 will boast the most robust roster in WWE game history, including current WWE superstars and Divas and those involved in matches from the WrestleMania mode.
WWE 2K has also confirmed that the mode will include more than 45 matches, played chronologically, though it was not confirmed if every WrestleMania event will be included. Until the matches are officially announced, we can only speculate on what will be included.
