Central Michigan Tecumseh Adams finished fifth and set a school record during the invitational-only Ryan Shay Memorial 3,000-meter run at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.
Adams finished in 8 minutes, 2.39 seconds in a field of 22 nationally prominent runners. It was his second school record in seven days. He broke the CMU indoor 5,000-meter mark in finishing in 13:53.08 at the Indiana Relays.
“I’m excited that the records have come this early in my career,” said Adams, a sophomore. “It’s really exciting for the team because we’re all so young. Within in the next few years we’ll all get faster as a team and I hope we all go on to break these records again in the future.”
Adams’ time at Notre Dame broke a five-year old CMU record. It was his first career appearance in the 3,000.
“Tecumseh has always been the type of athlete from whom we expected something special,” said Willie Randolph, CMU’s director of track and field and cross country. “It’s just great that his work ethic and the coaching are both coming together to create the reality of breaking these records.”
The Shay run is named in honor of the late Ryan Shay, a Central Lake native who ran at Notre Dame.
