River cleanup and tubing

Monday and Thursday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Patapsco Valley State Park, Avalon area: 5120 South St., Halethorpe. Float down the river and help with a river cleanup, picking up litter and dragging debris to the side for later pickup. Bring your own tube. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited to 20 participants. Call 443-636-0163 in advance to register. Cost is free and donations are welcome.

Boating meeting

Thursday, 10 a.m.-noon, Maryland Boat Act Advisory Committee meeting, Kent Island Yacht Club, 117 Yacht Club Drive, Chester. The committee will discuss the 2011 regulatory requests and be briefed on recent regulatory changes to vessel noise on Deep Creek Lake and other matters. The public is welcome to attend.

Naturalist hike

Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m., Patapsco Valley State Park, McKeldin area, 11676 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville. Ever wonder what type of tree is providing you shade in the woods? Join a naturalist on a short hike and learn about different tree species. Also learn how to identify a tree. Meet at the contact station. Call 410-461-5005 to sign up. All ages welcome. Cost: $2 per person.

Bass fishing

Saturday, 4:30 p.m.-11 p.m., Rocky Gap State Park, 12500 Pleasant Valley Road, Flintstone. Join the Rocky Gap Basser's bass tournament on Lake Habeeb. To register or for more information, contact tournament manager Sean Twigg at 301-338-1389. Cost: $40 for season and an additional $40 per tournament.

Stream search

Saturday, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., Gunpowder Falls State Park, Hammerman Area, Chase. Children 6-12 will explore the stream and learn how to use seine and dip nets. Collect and identify aquatic insects and learn their importance to the health of the stream. Wear clothes and shoes you can get wet and muddy. Bring sun block and insect repellent. Cost: Free.
