Tim Smith, Christina Lauer win Ironman Maryland

Postponed Ironman Maryland was worth the wait for Tim Smith and Christina Lauer.

Tim Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Christina Lauer of Arlington, Va., won top honors at the Ironman Maryland triathlon Saturday in Cambridge.

The triathlon was originally scheduled for Oct. 3 but was postponed because of the effects of Hurricane Joaquin.

Smith, competing in the male 30-34 group, and Christina Lauer, in the female 30-34 group, finished in 8 hours, 38 minutes, 21 seconds and 9:42:56, respectively.

One of more than 40 events in the global Ironman series, the Maryland event had more than 1,400 entrants.
