Triathlete Gabi Redford 12th in age group at world championships

You will recall our article on Sept. 8 that highlighted Gabi Redford and her qualifying for the world championships. She has returned from Europe where she did extremely well competing for Triathlon Team USA, ending up 12th of 95 in her age group and the third American.

It certainly helped that she was fourth out of the water on the opening leg of the Olympic distance course. A strong bike effort followed, which was capped by her setting a personal best time in the ending 10K run (45:05). Doing so well against athletes from around the world bodes well for her future endeavors. I can say there is something about doing well in your early 50s. Setting PRs at that age will boost her confidence that she can improve her times as she prepares for the August 2018 World Championships to be held in the Gold Coast, Australia.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA 5K: Mark your calendar for Nov. 11 to join in this race. The start/finish is in the new Two Rivers development in Odenton. Go to facebook.com/Wreaths-Across-America-5K-Run-or-Walk to sign up to raise money to put wreaths on site in selected cemeteries.

AL’S RUN 5K: Money raised in this event will go for scholarships for students playing lacrosse in pursuit of education. This year the AACC Foundation and the Archbishop Spalding High School Scholarship will benefit from the proceeds and the recipient will be selected by a team of AACC and ASH administrators. Find the race on active.com. Event date is October 15.
