Alabama QB A.J. McCarron finds out that girlfriend Katherine Webb picked up thousands of Twitter followers -- plus date requests -- during Monday's BCS Championship game.

MIAMI GARDENS - AJ McCarron may have helped lead Alabama to its second straight national title, but it was his girlfriend Katherine Webb who found all sorts of social media attention Monday night.

The former Miss Alabama was sitting next to McCarron’s mother and happened to catch the eye of ESPN broadcaster Brent Musburger during the telecast.

“You see that lovely lady there? She does go to Auburn, but she's also Miss Alabama and that's A.J. McCarron's girlfriend,” Musberger announced to the ESPN audience.

“You quarterbacks, you get all the good looking women. What a beautiful woman. Wow.”

Musburger’s comments started a Twitter firestorm and soon Webb began gaining Twitter followers at a fevered rate shooting past McCarron and past the 100,000 threshold by the end of the game. Miami Heat forward LeBron James even followed her on Twitter.

When told about her increased social media presence, McCarron was shocked, especially when he found out James was one of her followers.

“No way,” McCarron said. “I’m going to tweet him and I’m going to get a follow.”

“I guess she’s more famous than me,” the junior quarterback said with a laugh.
