Norfolk

The Tides have been red-hot since coming out of the All-Star Break last month, with wins in 13 of 16 games going into Saturday. The Tides have won five series in a row, but still entered Saturday's game seven games behind first-place Durham in the International League South division. … right-hander Mike Wright turned in a second straight strong start in Wednesday's 6-0 win over Toledo, stringing together five scoreless innings while allowing six hits and striking out four. … Right-hander Robert Coello, who joined the team on July 12, allowed a single earned run in nine appearances over 10 2/3 innings.

He's batting .400 with a home run and seven RBIs in 10 games. … Outfielder Mike Yastrzemski had an eight-game hitting streak snapped Wednesday against Akron, has hits in all but three of his 16 games for the Baysox and hit his first Double-A home run Thursday against the Mets. … Left-hander Tim Berry finished July with a 2.88 ERA in six starts, with 23 strikeouts and 12 walks for the month.

He's walked 13 batters and struck out eight in 22 innings. … Third baseman Jason Esposito finished July with a .354/.373/.556 line with four home runs and 16 RBI in 26 games, raising his season average to .268. The 2011 second-round draft pick is in his second full season in the Carolina League.

A spate of promotions have weakened a strong Shorebirds team, and the South Atlantic League club enters Saturday's game at 18-24, 8.5 games back in the second-half standings. … Left-hander Luis Gonzalez continued his scoreless streak with six shutout innings in the Shorebirds' 4-0 win over Lakewood Wednesday. Gonzalez struck out seven while extending his shutout streak to 201/3 innings. … Right-hander Hunter Harvey was put on the disabled list Wednesday for the rest of the season with a strained flexor mass in his elbow. He finished his first full season 7-5 with a 3.18 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 872/3 innings.

Friday's 5-4 win over State College gave the IronBirds their sixth series win of the year. Aberdeen enters Saturday's game 17-30, a half game below Vermont in the basement of the New York-Penn League. The pitching staff has a 3.37 ERA, fifth in the league, but the team is batting a league-low .226. … Left-hander Stephen Tarpley carried a shutout into the seventh inning Monday, but was charged with a run in the seventh inning of a 1-0 loss to Tri-City. It was the longest outing of the 2013 third-round draft pick's professional career, and he is 1-2 with a 4.67 ERA in eight starts.
