Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. will travel to the Czech Republic on Saturday through April 26 as part of a goodwill trip to promote baseball to young ballplayers and coaches.
In partnership with the Czech Baseball Association, the U.S. Embassy in Prague, the U.S. State Department Sports Diplomacy Division, and Major League Baseball, Ripken will serve as a special adviser to the commissioner on youth programs and outreach in engaging youth in a cross-cultural dialogue while conducting skills clinics for kids, meeting with coaches and dignitaries, and holding public discussions on baseball.
“This is an exciting trip and I’m honored to have the opportunity to teach the game I love, while embracing the culture of the Czech Republic. I look forward to meeting everyone and learning more about how we can help grow the game of baseball internationally,” Ripken said in a news release.
This marks the fourth such international trip for Ripken, who was raised in Aberdeen and spent his entire 21-year playing career with the Orioles. In the past he has visited China, Japan and Nicaragua.
