HOUSTON -- Matt Wieters just completed his brief throwing session in the outfield of Minute Maid Park.

Blink and you might have missed it.

Wieters played catch for little more than five minutes, throwing to bench coach John Russell with assistant trainer Brian Ebel watching.

It’s the first time that Wieters has thrown in more than three weeks.

It was slated to be a light throwing session –we probably won’t know much from just one session – but it’s still a significant step toward the club deciding whether Wieters will be able to return this season or will need season-ending surgery.

Other Orioles players are playing catch with a football in left field.

The roof is currently closed as rain falls in Houston.

Here is the Astros starting lineup:

Jose Altuve 2B
George Springer RF
Dexter Fowler CF
Jason Castro C
Matt Dominguez 3B
Chris Carter 1B
Alex Presley DH
Robbie Grossman LF
Jonathan Villar SS
Brett Hollander RHP
