After a 3-3 week that saw them split a two-game series on the road with the Pittsburgh Pirates and a four-game series at Camden Yards with the Cleveland Indians, the Orioles have tumbled down national power rankings.

The updated rankings, which came out before Monday’s win over the Milwaukee Brewers, reflect a week in which Orioles pitching surrendered 34 runs in the six games. The club also traded for catcher Nick Hundley from the San Diego Padres on Saturday.

-- Sports Illustrated dropped the Orioles from 11th to 14th, explaining that the fall “has more to do with the teams behind them getting hot than the Orioles doing anything in particular wrong,” but the ranking cited pitching as a major concern. The Orioles rank 23rd in the major leagues with a 4.16 team ERA.

-- ESPN moved the Orioles down five spots to 13th, saying that, without Wieters, “it is time for others in the lineup to make up the difference if this team is to realize its goal of reaching the postseason."

-- The Orioles slid from 10th to 12th in Fox Sports' latest rankings. The website mentioned first baseman Chris Davis' three-homer night and wondered if he has found his power again.

-- USA Today also moved the Orioles from 10th to 12th this week. And the website also mentioned Davis' power stroke in its summary of the team.

-- Major League Baseball’s rankings, which combine fan votes with that of media members, has the Orioles at 13th.

Each poll has the Orioles behind two American League East foes -- the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays, and ahead of two -- the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays.
