The Orioles played short a man on their 25-man roster after optioning right-hander Jake Arrieta to Triple-A, but the club will activate utility man Steve Tolleson before Saturday's game.
Tolleson was not in the starting lineup for Triple-A Norfolk on Friday night. Instead, he was on his way to Southern California.
Tolleson can't be activated until Saturday -- barring a DL move -- because that's when he fulfills the 10-day window a player must remain in the minors after being optioned. Tolleson was optioned to Norfolk on June 27.
Tolleson, who has made starts at both third base and in left field, is hitting .220/.278/.380 with two homers and six RBIs in 17 games with the Orioles.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
