BOSTON -- The official rosters have been announced for the Arizona Fall League, where teams often send their top prospects for a few weeks each offseason.
The Orioles will have eight prospects play for the Surprise Saguaros, including Cuban outfielders Dariel Alvarez and Henry Urrutia as well as their top position prospect, infielder Jonathan Schoop.
Here is the list: LHP Tim Berry, LHP Jason Gurka, RHP Branden Kline, LHP Eduardo Rodriguez, Schoop, Alvarez, Urrutia and catcher Michael Ohlman, who is on the taxi squad and will play only on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Also representing the Orioles will be Gary Kendall, Double-A Bowie’s skipper, who will manage the Saguaros, and Short-A Aberdeen pitching coach Alan Mills, who is listed as a coach for the squad.
Play begins Oct. 8 and runs into November.
Being selected for the AFL does not prohibit players from also getting called up in September when major league rosters expand.
Another minor league note: Jairo Asencio has been named the top reliever of the International League as well to the IL’s postseason All-Star team. Asencio, 30, has 24 saves for the Tides.
This is the second time Asencio has been named to the IL Postseason All-Star team, but the first time with this name. He made it in 2009 with Gwinnett when he was known as Luis Valdez.
Here are the lineup’s for tonight’s first of a three-game series at Fenway Park.
