Second baseman Alexi Casilla continues to improve from the finger injury he suffered Sunday at Tampa Bay, but he is once again out of the lineup with Ryan Flaherty earning the start Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels.
“It still hurts a little bit,” Casilla said. “It’ll be sore. I haven’t thrown yet. I’m going to throw and see how I feel.”
The switch-hitter said he is having trouble gripping the ball and applying pressure when he throws. He threw once Tuesday and was going to attempt to throw again before Wednesday’s game.
But there’s still improvement.
“Every day, it feels better,” Casilla said.
-- Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen (oblique) is scheduled to throw off a half-mound Thursday in Sarasota, Fla., manager Buck Showalter said. If Chen progresses, he’ll throw off a full mound Saturday.
-- Brian Roberts (hamstring) was slated to take batting practice before Wednesday’s game. He rejoined the team in Baltimore on Monday after spending time in Sarasota rehabbing a hamstring injury he suffered in the third game of the season.
-- Infielder Wilson Betemit (right knee sprain) started taking ground balls Tuesday in Sarasota.
-- Showalter said things with right-hander Dylan Bundy, the Orioles’ top prospect, were “so far, so good.” Bundy, who hasn’t pitched in a regular season game this spring because of stiffness in his right forearm and elbow, started throwing again Monday.
