ARLINGTON, Texas – Right-hander Tommy Hunter just completed a pregame pitcher's fielding practice session on the field here at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
It’s hot here in the Metroplex, so Hunter -- currently on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain -- worked up a lather covering first base, fielding comebackers and bunts in front of the mound.
If all goes well, Hunter will throw from a mound again tomorrow. The club hasn't decided whether it will be a third bullpen session or a minor league rehabilitation assignment.
Interestingly, right-hander Ryan Webb was also out there with Hunter doing PFP drills. It’s not certain why he’d be out there, too, but manager Buck Showalter said before yesterday’s game that there was a physical concern about one of the relievers.
After the game, he said he believed the club was in the clear in avoiding a DL stint. Webb did not pitch in Tuesday’s game and last pitched Saturday in Houston.
Showalter watched as Hunter and Webb worked out, probably reminiscing about all those PFP drills during the opening days of spring training in Sarasota, Fla.
Catcher Caleb Joseph is starting again today, and this time against a right-handed starter. He made his last three starts against left-handed starters.
Also. the Orioles announced their probable starters for this weekend’s series against the Oakland Athletics at Camden Yards. And Saturday’s starter is listed as TBA.
That would be right-hander Chris Tillman’s turn in the rotation with two days' extra rest.
Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen is scheduled to start Friday and right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez on Sunday.
