After beating the New York Yankees 3-2 in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday night, the Orioles received a surprise visitor: Principal owner Peter G. Angelos.

Angelos rarely makes an appearance in the clubhouse, and it’s exceptionally rare for it to happen after a game. Media members can’t remember that happening in the last decade, although he did meet the team during spring training this year and a few seasons ago before an Opening Day game.
It was almost like royalty had entered the room, and several players stood around to make sure they could shake his hand.

Angelos was accompanied by several people including his son, Lou, who brought several players over to meet the 83-year-old owner.

Closer Jim Johnson presented Angelos with the ball from his 43rd save this season, which clinched the club’s first winning season since 1997.

Johnson joked that he wants to give Angelos a ball from the World Series.

Angelos made a point to congratulate several players for their seasons, including Adam Jones, Darren O’Day and Joe Saunders.

Saunders, who has been with the team only since late August, wasn’t sure who the man was until Angelos moved on.

Angelos declined to be interviewed, but joked with several reporters before exiting.
