The Orioles did not settle with four of their arbitration-eligible players heading into today’s deadline for exchanging figures
Now the Orioles and the players will exchange salary numbers and – if they don’t settle – an arbiter will choose one figure or the other during a February hearing. They can continue to negotiate up until that hearing.
The players heading toward arbitration are pitchers Brad Bergesen and Jeremy Guthrie, outfielder Adam Jones and infielder Robert Andino.
Exact figures likely will be made public later in the day.
The Orioles settled with three others: pitchers Jim Johnson, Dana Eveland and Darren O’Day.
The club has not gone to arbitration with a player since Rodrigo Lopez before the 2006 season. The Orioles are 6-0 in arbitration cases led by general counsel H. Russell Smouse.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
