Orioles tender six arbitration-eligible players: Davis, Wieters, Norris, Hunter, Matusz and Patton

Lost in Monday night’s 11th-hour drama that saw the Orioles trade closer Jim Johnson to the Oakland A's were several roster moves the club also made prior to the midnight tender deadline.

The Orioles tendered contracts to their six remaining arbitration-eligible players: catcher Matt Wieters, first baseman Chris Davis and pitchers Bud Norris, Tommy Hunter, Brian Matusz and Troy Patton.

That much was expected. The six will exchange salary figures with the Orioles next month. In most cases, the team and player come to an agreement somewhere in between those figures, but if no agreement is reached, they also have the right to have their salaries determined by a panel of arbitrators in February.

The Orioles also did not offer contracts to right-hander Eddie Gamboa and outfielder Jason Pridie, removing them from the 40-man roster.  Both players immediately become free agents.

Those moves – combined with the exchange of Johnson for Jemile Weeks – puts 37 players on the organization’s 40-man roster.

Gamboa, who began a transition to become a knuckleballer, was added to the 40-man roster just two weeks ago. He was 6-11 with a 4.43 ERA last season with Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk.

Pridie was 2-for-10 in four games with the Orioles after earning a late-season callup. He hit .269/.333/.434 with 15 homers and 57 RBIs last season at Triple-A Norfolk.

Earlier in the night, the Orioles agreed to terms with outfielders Nolan Reimold and Steve Pearce on one-year deals, avoiding arbitration.
