Orioles sign RHP Luis Vizcaino, INF Brock Bond to minor league deals

SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Orioles announced Tuesday that they've signed right-handed pitcher Luis Vizcaino and infielder Brock Bond to minor league contracts.

The deals don't include invitations to major league spring training, so both players will report to the Orioles’ minor league camp at Twin Lakes Park.

Vizcaino, 39, hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since 2009 with the Cleveland Indians. Last season, he was 1-3 with a 1.40 ERA for Yucatan of the Mexican League. Over an 11-year career with the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees, Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs and Indians, he is 35-30 with a 4.33 ERA.

He signed a minor league deal with the Yankees back in 2011, but his contract was voided when he suffered an Achilles injury while pitching in winter ball. He also missed the entire 2010 season and most of 2009 with arm trouble.

Earlier in his career, he recorded at least 65 appearances for six straight years (2002-2007).

The switch-hitting Bond, 28, spent the past seven years in the San Francisco Giants organization, including parts of three seasons at Triple-A.

In 2012, he hit .332/.422/.398 in 106 games at the Triple-A level.

Bond batted .435 in 13 games in spring training for the Giants last season, but he didn’t make the club. After suffering an oblique injury late in the spring, he played at high Class-A San Jose, where he hit .240/.339/.324 in 92 games.
