WASHINGTON -- As expected, the Orioles designated relief pitcher Julio DePaula for assignment and reinstated right-hander Bud Norris to start Tuesday’s game.
But the game was postponed until Aug. 4 after a rain delay of approximately 2 1/2 hours.
The Orioles selected DePaula’s contract from Double-A Bowie on Monday, and he spent less than 24 hours with the club. But that didn’t diminish the importance of the promotion to the 31-year-old right-hander, who hasn’t made a major league appearance since 2007.
On June 27, DePaula was pitching for the independent Atlantic League’s York Revolution. Ten days later, he was dressing for a major league club, giving him hope that he could someday return full-time in the future.
“Everything has happened so fast,” DePaula said in Spanish before Tuesday’s game was rained out. “I was working for this, but I never expected it to be this fast.”
