The Orioles made a couple expected moves before Wednesday’s game.
They recalled right-hander Steve Johnson, the 2005 St. Paul’s graduate and son of MASN broadcaster and former Oriole Dave Johnson.
Johnson will make his first major league start tonight (he pitched two innings in relief on July 15), and he’ll be seeking his first big league win. Coincidentally, his dad picked up his first big league win for the Orioles on Aug. 8 in the Why Not? Season of 1989. Dave Johnson beat the Minnesota Twins 6-1, throwing a complete game.
To make room for Steve Johnson, Zach Britton was sent down to Triple-A Norfolk after last night’s game.
The Orioles also placed infielder Ryan Flaherty on the disabled list with a bacterial infection, retroactive to Aug. 2. They called up reliever Miguel Socolovich, who has a 9.00 ERA in four games with the Orioles this season.
Socolovich was needed to provide some help in the bullpen after Tuesday’s 14-inning game.
Here are the lineups for Wednesday:
Orioles: Markakis 9, Hardy 6, Davis DH, Jones 8, Wieters 2, Betemit 5, McLouth 7, Reynolds 3, Quintanilla 4. Steve Johnson 1.
