Orioles prospects Henry Urrutia and Eduardo Rodriguez selected for All-Star Futures Game

It appears that the Orioles will be well represented in next month’s All-Star Game in New York, and two of the organization’s top prospects have been chosen to participate in the All-Star Futures Game.

Double-A Bowie outfielder Henry Urrutia and Class-A Frederick left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez have been selected to play for the World Team in the Futures Game on July 14 at Citi Field. The game highlights some of the top prospects in baseball in a United States against the rest of the world setting.

The 26-year-old Urrutia, who was also named to participate in the Eastern League All-Star Game on Wednesday, is hitting .365 with seven homers and 35 RBIs through 195 at-bats in his first season of professional baseball in the United States. The Cuban defector has multiple hits in 26 of his 51 games this season.

Rodriguez, ranked the Orioles’ No. 5 prospect by Baseball America, is 6-4 with a 2.85 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 85 1/3 innings over 14 starts for the Keys. The 21-year-old threw a scoreless inning in last week’s Carolina-California League All-Star Game in San Jose, Calif.

Urrutia is one of two players selected from Cuba – Cubs prospect Jorge Soler is the other – and Rodriguez is the only player from Venezuela picked for the World Team.

Last season, Manny Machado and Dylan Bundy participated in the Futures Game in Kansas City. Past Orioles participants also include Zach Britton, J.J. Hardy, Jim Johnson, Brian Matusz, Troy Patton and Chris Tillman.

The game will be will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 2 p.m.
