Orioles pregame: With no DH in Atlanta, Chris Davis moves to right field

The Baltimore Sun

Orioles manager Buck Showalter promised some unconventional thinking when drawing up his lineup for these games at National League parks, and tonight's would qualify.

With no designated hitter, Showalter found a way to get Chris Davis' hot bat in the lineup, sending him to right field, a position he's never played in the major leagues.

Showalter wants to keep Mark Reynolds at first base, and there are several options at third (Wilson Betemit starts there tonight). Those are the only two positions Davis has played in the bigs.

He has played 54 minor league games in the outfield, including 14 games at Triple-A Round Rock last season. But he hasn't played right field since his first year of pro ball in 2006, when he played two games for Single-A Spokane.

In his last 21 games, Davis is hitting .361 with four doubles, seven homers and 16 RBI.

Here are tonight's lineups. By the way, it's a 7:35 start tonight.
