The Orioles might be getting Minnesota at the right time. The Twins have lost five straight, seven of their last eight games and were swept by the surging Oakland A's this weekend.
Right-hander Chris Tillman will make his second major league start of the season tonight. He was recalled from Double-A Bowie earlier today -- he was sent there to make a start on Monday so he could keep pitching over the all-star break. Tillman allowed two earned runs on two hits over 8 1/3 innings in his 2012 Orioles debut in a 4-2 win in Seattle on the Fourth of July.
We should hear some news on Robert Andino later today. He had an MRI today. He's not in tonight's starting lineup but is listed among the reserves on today's lineup card, but I haven't seen him in the Orioles clubhouse this afternoon.
Steve Tolleson will make his first major league start this season at second base. He's only played four games there in his major league career, including just two starts, but it makes sense he's in the lineup over left-handed hitting Ryan Flaherty against Twins left-handed starter Scott Diamond.
In other news:
-- Left-hander Dana Eveland cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk, where he will join the starting rotation there.
-- Right-hander Jason Hammel underwent successful arthoscopic surgery on his right knee. He is expected to miss at least a month.
Here are tonight's starting lineups:
