Orioles pre-game: Quick turnaround in KC

The Baltimore Sun

Just more than 12 hours after completing last night's 15-inning win over the Royals, the Orioles are back here at Kauffman Stadium for a day-after-night game to complete this quirky two-game set in Kansas City.

It's School Day here at Kauffman Stadium, and I'm told about 15,000 kids will be in the stands for today's game.

After catching 15 innings yesterday, Matt Wieters is getting the day off. Luis Exposito will take his place. Wilson Betemit, who split time between third and first yesterday, will DH today, giving rookie Ryan Flaherty the start at third. Rookie outfielder Xavier Avery gets his fifth straight start in left since being called up Sunday.

And left-hander Brian Matusz will make the start today. He's won two of his last three starts, with a five-inning, seven-run loss against Texas sandwiched in between.

Despite going 15 innings last night, the bullpen's in decent shape. The Orioles were able to avoid using Luis Ayala and Pedro Strop, who could both go multiple innings if needed.

Here are the lineups:

Xavier Avery LF
J.J. Hardy SS
Nick Markakis RF
Adam Jones CF
Wilson Betemit DH
