The Orioles will host the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon at Ed Smith Stadium for their final spring training meeting.
Kevin Gausman will make the start today for the Orioles. He’s allowed two runs and four hits over seven Grapefruit League innings with five strikeouts and two walks. In his last outing, he allowed one run and three hits in three innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
Among the available pitchers today are Zach Britton, Troy Patton, Tommy Hunter, Steve Johnson and Evan Meek.
Meek could work back-to-back days for the first time this spring.
Chris Tillman, who was scratched from his start Friday, is feeling better after a case of the flu and will start Wednesday. He will likely start in the Orioles’ night road split-squad game Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte.
“It wasn’t pretty,” Tillman said of the illness. “I’ll tell you that much. It wasn’t good. I just had the stomach flu, I guess. They had a hard time telling whether it was food poisoning or the flu, but I think they settled on the flu. It was really 24 hours of being sick but 48 hours to kind of recover from it. I feel much better now.
“I think I’m just going to stay on schedule. I think probably a bullpen tomorrow, I would assume. I haven’t talked to them yet, so don’t hold me to it, but then probably the 26th I believe -- maybe. I might be wrong. Haven’t talked to them yet.”
The Orioles are also playing in a afternoon road game against the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers on that day. Miguel Gonzalez, who tossed six scoreless innings Friday against the Atlanta Braves, will start in that game.
