SEATTLE—The Orioles are going for a series win in Seattle in this afternoon's series finale against the Mariners at Safeco Field. Right-hander Chris Tillman has officially been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and will make his first big league start since last Aug. 11.
Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts, who was placed on the 15-day DL Tuesday with a right groin strain, is heading back to Baltimore for more tests. He's going to get a magnetic resonance angiogram (MRA) to see if his injury is hip related. Roberts missed Monday's game with hip soreness, but complained of pain in his hip on Tuesday.
All three could be on rehab assignments at Double-A Bowie by the weekend. Teagarden, who has been out since spring training, caught a GCL game today and is expected to join Bowie on Friday. Markakis and Chevez could be there by then as well.
Tegarden's impending return is an interesting one. It appears that once he shows he can catch games at Bowie and remain healthy, he would join the team as the backup catcher, signaling the end of the Ronny Paulino era in Baltimore.
Minor-league catcher Luis Exposito also played in his first GCL game today, starting at designated hitter.
Also, Showalter still hasn't named a starter for Friday's game in Anaheim. Left-hander Dana Eveland and right-hander Miguel Gonzalez are both options.
As far as the rest of the Angels series, Jake Arrieta will pitch Thursday. Jason Hammel will start Saturday's game and Wei-Yin Chen will go Sunday -- both pitching on regular rest.
