Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez's throwing session pushed back because of back spasms

SARASOTA, Fla. – Orioles right-hander Miguel Gonzalez, who left Saturday’s workout with back spasms, will have his bullpen session scheduled for today pushed back as a precaution.

Gonzalez said he began feeling the spasms while participating in a drill where pitchers run from the mound to cover first base on a grounder to first.

“Basically it got tight and it was a little spasm and it got worse,” Gonzalez said. “Today it feels a lot better now, so I feel a little better about that. It’s nothing to be worried about.

Gonzalez threw a pen on Friday and was scheduled to throw again this morning but he said that will be pushed back a day or two.

“It went away but I came in and treated it,” Gonzalez said. “It’s a good thing I did it early instead of keep doing the drills because that would have been bad. It’s nothing to be worried about. I’ve had them before, so I know exactly what I’ve got to do.”

Since he has been working out in Sarasota for three weeks now, Gonzalez said he’s not worried that missing a few days will put him behind in getting ready for the season.

-- Both catcher Johnny Monell and right-hander Alfredo Aceves have arrived and will participate in today’s workout. Monell was delayed flying out of Philadelphia and Aceves was flying in from Arizona. All pitchers and catchers have now reported.

-- Suk-min Yoon’s locker remained empty this morning. The Orioles have yet to announce his three-year, $5.57-million deal, but both sides are anticipating a press conference to introduce Yoon early this week.
