Right-hander Chris Tillman is 4-0 with a 2.30 ERA this season on the road and 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA at home.
It may be just one of those weird statistics that baseball writers and fans seem to love. It may be a coincidence.
But it’s probably not a coincidence that Tillman has allowed three homers in five road starts and 12 homers in seven games at Camden Yards.

At times, Tillman can elevate his fastball and those mistakes fly out of Camden Yards. And can be the difference between a solid start and a bad one.
Speaking of homers, Danny Valencia has hit three already as an Oriole – with all of them coming in a 17-at-bat span. Valencia had three homers in 154 at-bats in the majors last year with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.
He said the difference is simple: He had a bad year last year and worked all offseason studying video to iron out his swing. Add in the 11 homers he had at Norfolk, and Valencia already has 14 this season. That would qualify as second on the Orioles behind Chris Davis.
It’s too early to say Dan Duquette has worked his scrap-heap magic again with Valencia (and Chris Dickerson). But, as Buck Showalter likes to say, so far, so good.
Nate McLouth stole two bases on Tuesday to tie Boston’s Jacoby Ellsbury for the American League lead at 21. McLouth’s been caught just once this year.
Combine that with last year’s 12 for 13 – and McLouth has stolen 33 of 35 as an Oriole. That’s just ridiculous.
And, in case you haven’t noticed, Jim Johnson is 4-for-4 with no runs allowed in his last four save opportunities since he surrendered four runs to blow the save in Toronto on May 26.
Johnson is human. He is going to blow some saves. But my guess is the naysayers are at least breathing a little easier right now.
