As third baseman Manny Machado continues to hit doubles at a record pace, right fielder Nick Markakis has had one of the best views for the 20-year-old’s performances: the on-deck circle.

Machado has hit second in all 70 of the Orioles’ games, and Markakis has been in the No. 3 spot for 51 of them. And while he was in front of Machado on Sunday, in the leadoff spot for the 17th time this year, Markakis still got to see Machado do what he does best when he pulled the ball down the left-field line for his 32nd double of the year against left-hander Jon Lester in the first inning.

“From right field, I have a good view of a lot of right-handed hitters’ swings,” Markakis said before Sunday's game. “I’ve always said Alex Rodriguez has one of the best swings, just from him and Manny Ramirez, just what I see in right field from the flight of the ball and where they make contact. [Manny's] not far behind them.”

Machado is batting .327 after Sunday’s game, and his double extended his hitting streak to 14 games, the past five of which have been multi-hit performances.

“He’s got a great swing for such a young guy,” Markakis said. “To be able to watch him from on deck and hitting behind him, it’s pretty cool to watch.”
