The Orioles have announced that they have trimmed their spring roster to 53 -- with 15 nonroster invitees -- by optioning catcher Michael Ohlman and left-hander Tim Berry to Double-A Bowie while reassigning catcher Brian Ward to minor league camp.

Berry and Ohlman are on the club's 40-man roster; Ward was a spring training invitee.

Ohlman, 23, had a breakout minor league season last year in High-A Frederick, hitting .313 with 13 homers in 100 games while earning the Carolina League Player of the Year honors. He played in two games this spring, going 2-for-3 at the plate. He was named by Baseball America as the organization’s ninth best prospect in 2014.

The 22-year-old Berry, a 50th-round draft pick in 2009, was in his first big league camp this spring. He allowed one run and two hits over three innings. He was 11-7 with a 3.85 ERA in 27 games last year for Frederick. Baseball America ranked him the Orioles’ sixth-best prospect.

Ward, 28, had one hit in two at-bats this spring. The 2009 nondrafted free agent is in his sixth year in the organization. He played most of last season at Bowie, hitting .260 with two homers in 49 games.
