The Orioles were two outs away from going up 2-1 in the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees.
And it got away.
Pinch-hitter Raul Ibanez hit a 1-0, 94-mph sinker over the right field wall to tie the game at 2-2 with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
Orioles closer Jim Johnson had given up just three homers in 71 regular season games. Now he has yielded two in three outings against the Yankees this postseason. The first came in Sunday's ninth against Russell Martin.
Perhaps the most interesting thing is Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who didn't want to drop the slugging Alex Rodriguez from the third spot in the order, pinch-hit for him.
And the move paid off.
The Orioles headed into extra innings for the 19th time this year. They've won 16 straight. Their only two extra-inning losses were to the Yankees in April.
