Orioles hire Brady Anderson as special assistant, make other hires official

The Orioles announced several moves to their baseball operations department Thursday, most notably naming former Orioles player Brady Anderson as the team’s Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President for Baseball Operations.

Anderson, who played 14 of his 15 major league seasons with the Orioles, will assist Dan Duquette with player relations and player development as well as oversee conditioning throughout the organization. This is the first time Anderson has had an official title within the organization, but several current Orioles players have spent the offseason training under Anderson.

Also, John Stockstill has been promoted to Director of Player Personnel, where he will oversee the day-to-day operation of the minor league system as well as help obtain talent for the team at the major league level. Stockstill was previously the team’s Director of Player Development.

Tripp Norton, who has been the team’s Assistant Director of Player Development, will become the Director of Baseball Administration, where he will negotiate major league player contract and oversee budgeting.

Also, Ned Rice has been promoted to be the Assistant Director of Major League Operations, where he will work with Norton on waivers and rules as a liaison with the labor department of Major League Baseball.  Mike Snyder will be the new Assistant Director of Scouting and Player Development and will work closely with John Stockstill on player personnel and oversee administration of the club’s scouting operations.

Among on-field matters, the team also formally announced the addition of former major league pitching coach Rick Peterson as the organization’s Director of Pitching Development, as well as Mike Boulanger as Minor League Hitting Coordinator.

Also, Sarah Gelles has been added to the baseball operations staff as Baseball Analytics Coordinator and Ben Werhtan has joined the club as Advance Scouting Coordinator.

The club had previously announced the additions of Lee Thomas as Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, Fred Ferreira as Executive Director of International Recruiting, Ray Poitevint as Executive Director of International Baseball, Gary Rajsich as Director of Scouting, and Danny Haas as National Crosschecker.
