With Mariano Rivera entering the game in the top of the ninth, the Orioles were facing their third consecutive one-run loss to the New York Yankees -- and fourth overall after losing to the Chicago White Sox, 3-2, in the game before that series. Jim Johnson, who blew a save in the first game of that series, retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth for his 30th save.
