When the Orioles needed help in the starting rotation in May, they promoted Gausman from Double-A Bowie to pitch on the road against the Toronto Blue Jays. While he showed some promise, Gausman took the loss after allowing four runs and seven hits in five innings. He started four more games for the Orioles before pitching in relief for the team. After spending time at Triple-A Norfolk, Gausman returned to the Orioles bullpen for the final month of the season. Gausman was 0-3 with a 7.66 ERA in his five starts, but he pitched better out of the bullpen (3-2, 3.52 ERA in 15 relief appearances) for the Orioles.
