Pearce has been one of the Orioles’ hottest hitters, becoming a regular starter with the absence of injured third baseman Manny Machado (knee). Pearce entered the night with an 11-game hitting streak, batting .333/375/.778 (15-for-45) with 10 extra-base hits (five doubles and five homers) over that span.
Before leaving the game, Pearce made a nice defensive play in the second inning, hopping onto the top of a brick wall in front of the first row of seats down the right-field line to catch a fly ball from Trevor Plouffe.
Pearce also ranged to his right for the final out of the third inning on a grounder by Danny Santana, throwning across his body to pitcher Miguel Gonzalez covering first base.
Chris Davis, starting at third for Machado, shifted over to first base and Jimmy Paredes entered the game at third base, batting second in the lineup.
