In tonight’s rout of the Yankees in front of a sellout crowd at Camden Yards, Orioles first baseman Chris Davis reached the 30-homer plateau – before July.
Davis recorded his third multi-homer game of the season – and the sixth of his career. He also hit two homers in Detroit 10 days ago and on May 29 against the Nationals.
With his second homer of the night – a two-run shot of Ivan Nova in the sixth – Davis tied Brady Anderson’s club record for most homers before the All-Star break (30 in 1996). The Orioles still have 14 games until the break begins.
Davis’ first homer of the night, a three-run shot off Yankees starter David Phelps in the first inning, gave the Orioles a 4-0 lead.
His five RBIs tonight also tie a career high, set four times, including three times this season.
