OAKLAND, Calif. – The Orioles hope to escape O.co Coliseum with a series win in Sunday’s series finale against the Oakland Athletics.
Right-hander Kevin Gausman, who held Oakland to one run and four hits in a career-high seven innings June 7 at Camden Yards, takes the mound for the Orioles on Sunday. He is 1-0 with a 0.79 ERA in two road starts this season.
Right-hander Sonny Gray will start for the Athletics. He is 4-0 with a 2.41 ERA over his last five starts. He allowed five runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings June 7 against the Orioles.
Ubaldo Jimenez was scheduled to throw a bullpen session before Sunday's game to test his sprained right ankle. It will be the first time since he injured his ankle that Jimenez has pitched from the stretch and is able to really test the power from the push-off leg.
If the session goes well, Jimenez could make a minor league rehabilitation start Wednesday.
“It’s all predicated on today,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Sunday. “I’m hoping for good news. If you watch him move around, it’s not real encouraging. But I don’t know if he’s just protecting it. The first time you tape your ankle that quickly, you’re a little bound up and you kind of try to read the body language. But he’s very protective during BP.”
