Delmarva infielder Nicky Delmonico will not need surgery on the left knee he injured in Tuesday’s game.

A MRI did not show a tear of the medial meniscus and Delmonico, who is on the 7-day DL, should not be sidelined long. He was injured when a baserunner slid into him at second base while attempting to break up a double play.

The 19-year-old Delmonico, whom the Orioles selected in the sixth round in 2011 out of a Tennessee high school, was recently named the MVP of the 2012 South Atlantic League All-Star team.

He is hitting .254/.351/.402 with 20 doubles, 6 homers and 43 RBIs this season for the Shorebirds. Baseball America named Delmonico the organization’s sixth best prospect heading into this season.
